I recently had the opportunity to visit the HarperCollins office in Lower Manhattan. It was an absolute dream come true. I had to keep pinching myself that this incredible place, celebrating 200 years of literary history this year, is my publishing home! There was displays dedicated to E.B. White, Maurice Sendak, Pete the Cat, legendary editor Ursula Nordstrom's actual desk... and the library of books! Amazing books! My agent (Alexander Slater) and I had a wonderful time connecting with my HarperCollins Children's Book editor and a whole crew of people from sales & marketing, PR, school & library, editorial, etc. It was such a wonderful experience. Here are a few pics :)
The Unlikely Story of a Pig in the City was inspired by a childhood experience of mine, when my college-aged brother saved a runt piglet from certain death at a nearby farm and brought it home. The pig grew to a massive hog and lived in our house for six months! Here's a fun throwback video montage of *just discovered* clips of me with our pig, Ellie in 1993-1994 :)
Stay tuned for a fun blog post on HarperChildren's website with more information about the inspiration behind my debut novel, The Unlikely Story of a Pig in the City, which publishes TOMORROW October 3rd! I'd love to see you photos & hear your thoughts on social media, feel free to share on the hashtag #TheUnlikelyStoryofaPigintheCity. Thanks for reading!
