Uptown Showdown

Last night we went to Symphony Space for the first Uptown Showdown comedy event hosted by Young Adult author Maureen Johnson. The topic of this old-school style debate? Dogs versus cats! And you can guess what team we were routing for... Team Dog!

The teams were comprised of three individuals, all hilarious writers and performers (from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, etc). Each side took a turn stating their case, using visuals and flow charts to communicate their points...

No cat-or-dog-related subject was off-limits. They addressed everything from hair balls and cat litter to walking dogs outside and picking up poo off the sidewalk. Cat owners took a lot of punches! We laughed the entire time!

Some of Team Cat's arguments:

 Highlights from Team Dog:

Team Cat came in with a rebuttal about dog fights and mocked Team Dog's outfits by calling them the "Dead Poet's Society."

After a few minutes of going back and forth, Maureen took the stage and judged audience applause to determine a debate winner... and Team Dog won! Yay dogs.

Poor Team Cat had to eat a dog treat! But the Team Dog captain A.D. Miles ate some to be a good sport. :)

Want to attend the next Uptown Showdown? We'll be there!

It's on January 9th and as of now the topic hasn't posted online. But who cares what they're debating about? It's good comedy! Tickets are cheap, it's only an hour in length, the seats are first-come first-serve, and you can bring a beverage in from the bar.

Buy tickets here (heads-up: last night was sold out.)
