Chicken Update

Remember these little chicks from last April?

Well, they're all grown up now! I hung out with them when I was in D.C...

This is me holding Chipmunk. I don't remember her as a chick but I guess she was around. She is really sweet and affectionate. My niece is part of 4H and taught me the proper way to hold a chicken, so this was my attempt.

 Oh, and Star? My old favorite?

Yeah, not anymore. I tried to hold her and she kept beating her wings and flew out of my arms. She's not really into people. Star is one of the whitish ones with spots...

My niece/family owns three different types of chickens. And you know what's really cool? Their eggs are three different colors –  a greyish blue, creamy tan, and dark brown. Think you can guess which colored hen lays which colored eggs?

This little flock of chickens are only part of the reason I took a backyard chicken class in Brooklyn awhile back. Don't be surprised if some chickens appear in my books one day ;)

omg - chipmunk has to be the cutest name for a little chicken. and you look like an ace holding that bird. see what star is missing out on?!
