Teen Author Night

Last night I attended the final Teen Author Night of the year with my Write Nite group...

Most of these monthly events are held at the Jefferson Market branch of the New York Public Library and hosted by author David Levithan. I absolutely love attending live readings because I learn about new authors, get excited about new books, and leave inspired to continue my writing journey.

Last night's featured authors were: Cecil Castellucci (First Day on Earth), Margie Gelbwasser (Inconvenient), Andy Marino (Unison Spark), Julia Mayer (Eyes in the Mirror), Marie Rutkoski (The Jewel of the Kalderash) and Delia Sherman (The Freedom Maze). I'd heard Cecil and Marie speak before at the Voice panel earlier this year, but it was my first time hearing the other authors share their work.

I *try* to read a new book every week. While I mostly focus on reading YA and MG (since I'm trying to break into the industry and all....) I'm always up for reading something completely different! My husband recently read Unbroken and raved about it, so that's at the top of my list.

Have you read any awesome newly-released books lately? Please share!

{And since I mention my Write Nite group every week, I thought maybe you'd like to know more about them? Meet Gina, Ghenet, Gabi and Erin!}

Shine by Lauren Myracle! Great contemporary mystery with a Southern twang :)

Reading nights rock - so inspiring, and it's great to hear the authors read in their own voices.

I've only been to a book reading once..a few years ago when dooce had her second book out. I love going to tatter cover. they're always hosting book readings. I just haven't had time to attend! currently I'm reading, Black Lamb and Grey Falcon..(a memoir about Rebecca West's journey through Yugoslavia) it;s over 1000 pages, but it's so interesting I can't put it down..then when I want a light read I switch to another book, " olive season" by carol drinkwater. My husband asks how can I keep up with two books, but somehow I do!
