Jazz Brunch

Yesterday we went to a jazz brunch at the famous Blue Note Jazz Club in Greenwich Village...

The atmosphere and energy in the Blue Note is awesome. It's an intimate space, so no matter where you sit, you have a great view of the stage. We watched The Noriko Ueda Jazz Orchestra perform... This group is led by Noriko Ueda, who hails from Hyogo, Japan and is a master of at least three instruments (she attended the legendary Berklee College of Music in Boston). Truthfully, I know nothing about jazz (I tried my hand at the cello in elementary school and it was not my calling). But it was so fun to experience a show that wasn't crazy long in a cozy environment while I'm stuffing my face with food. Almost every member of the orchestra had a feature solo, and I was so impressed with the musicians! And when Noriko took to the bass, it was AMAZING. I wish I had a video of how fast her fingers could move.

I also really liked it when the trombone section stood up and completely jammed out. They looked like they were having a blast....

The show lasted about an hour and a half, which was the perfect length of time to enjoy a drink, eat, and listen to the music. If you want to attend a jazz brunch at the Blue Note, we saved about $25 by purchasing a Groupon deal in advance, so you may want to check for online discounts first. But go for the music, not the service or the food – both are subpar, and I wished I ordered the fruit and cheese plate after I saw my neighbor's dish. But the jazz music? Awesome!
