Fall Leaves & Happy Halloween

Are you enjoying your weekend? As much as I love this time of year, we spent many, MANY hours yesterday raking & blowing all the fallen leaves on the property. My arms and back are really sore today!

Off to trick-or-treat? My nieces are dressed up in beyond adorable & elaborate costumes – Hermoine Granger & Kaya AmericanGirl – Such a fun holiday! Enjoy tonight & be safe.

If you have dogs, check out my holiday-related Nat Geo Channel posts on Halloween Dangers for Dogs and Canine Costumes...

and get festive by reading up on wild superstitions from around the world on Nat Geo Inside Wild!

Fallen Tree

We've been experiencing heavy storms in the northeastern USA. This mature tree toppled on a perimeter fence and, thankfully, missed the owner's home.

Patio Days

Don't you love patio days?

Now that the weather is warming up here in the Northeastern USA, we've been relaxing a lot outside after work. It's so nice to have longer days of sunshine. My husband is becoming quite the griller – he marinates the chicken in pineapple juice and soy sauce, and it is absolutely delicious.

Our dogs are masters at sunbathing + begging for food.

What's a patio day in your life like?

The Netherlands Carillion + Tulips

The Netherlands Carillon monument was a gift from the Dutch people to the United States after World War II as a symbol of friendship. Two bronze lions guard the plaza entrance.

This monument is located adjacent to the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Virginia. At Carillon concerts and on Independence Day, attendees can listen to the bells play.

Currently, tulips of all colors are planted along this national parkland. A few days ago, I photographed some of the varieties and a few pictures of my nieces on a beautiful sunny day.

More info on the Netherlands Carillon.

Plan your visit.

Grow tulips.

P.S. My bouquet at my wedding was made of red and white tulips.  :)

Sunset + Planets

Has anyone else looked for Venus & Mercury in the western horizon? Last Saturday we packed up our binoculars, chairs and cameras and went to Fort DeSoto Beach on a rare planet hunt.

Venus was visible after sunset...

Mercury was slightly lower on the horizon than Venus, and toward the right. But unfortunately my camera was not strong enough to capture the small glimmer of this planet. Check out some stunning photography of Mercury here

.

It's not too late to see this planetary duo for yourself! They are visible for another week or so. Find out more information here.
